We’ve all seen and heard the shocking and disturbing news reporting from active shooter situations in schools, churches and public gatherings. Unfortunately, this is the reality of the world in which we now live. We think “But it couldn’t happen here”, and hopefully that remains true. But would you know what to do and where to go if it happened in our church?
All members are urged to attend this important service next Sunday, where steps to keep us as safe as possible in this unlikely event will be explained. Jim Howe, Chair of our Safe Congregation Committee, and 10 other church members recently completed a day’s training with the local Sheriff and Police Departments to learn about A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). Jim will share some of the thinking behind this national program and how it affects us in our Sunday morning worship services and in other meetings which are held in our church building. At the end of the service, there will be a practice evacuation drill, after which there will be a time for questions and reflections on what we’ve seen and heard.
