OUR MINISTER, REV. LINDA LAWRENCE
Rev. Linda Lawrence moved to Sierra Vista in August of 2015 after a very brief period of early retirement that didn’t “stick.” Prior to accepting the half-time position as our minister, Rev. Linda served five years as the Membership Coordinator/Assistant Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix. Realizing that she still had gifts to share and a desire for adventure, she and husband Gary moved to the more moderate climate of Sierra Vista where they are enjoying the weather, the seasons, the natural beauty, and of course, the wonderful people of the congregation.
Rev. Linda worked as a school psychologist for twenty years before pursuing her childhood call to ministry. She attended Meadville Lombard Theological School in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1999. Following graduation and ordination, Rev. Linda completed a chaplain residency in Madison, WI, and served Lake Country UU Church in Hartland, WI, for three years. She later worked as a hospice chaplain and provided pastoral care through Counseling Ministries, Inc. in her hometown of Rockford, IL.
Linda and Gary met at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford, IL, in 1991. Through their family merger, they have five children and seven grandchildren spread across the country. Gary is an English and Creative Writing instructor for Glendale and Cochise Community Colleges.
Rev. Linda brings to us a desire to create: meaningful worship, a healthy religious education program for our children and grandchildren, and interesting and varied adult religious education programs. She has a passion for community building through small group ministries within the congregation, and she brings many gifts and much experience in pastoral care. Rev. Linda is especially interested in highlighting and working on issues related to humane immigration reform, GLBTQIA rights, and racial and economic justice.
Her office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12:00 to 4:00 by appointment.
